SUMMARY

It is the responsibility of the Automation Specialist to facilitate the effective and efficient use of proprietary FTSI hardware and software and to be the resident “Expert” on these components.  The Automation Specialist will be called upon to program, integrate and configure hardware and software solutions for FTSI projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Possess expert skills with regards to programming FTSI Navigator systems.
  • Investigate and access new technologies for applications in FTSI projects and products.
  • Oversee and ensure maintenance of written procedures for the testing, set-up and programming of each type of FTSI hardware device as assigned.
  • Develop and inform technical approaches and designs used for specific FTSI new projects.
  • Train clients on the installation and configuration of Navigator Server and GUI software.
  • Perform onsite programming of client projects in conformance with project specification, artistic consideration and strict adherence to best practices and safety procedures.
  • Communicate with clients and maintain a positive, open relationship geared towards customer satisfaction and expert problem-solving.
  • Perform testing, set-up and integration of third-party controllers or computers with FTSI proprietary controllers as assigned.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of each type of FTSI Controller component and assemblies.
  • Maintain the Automation Engineering directory structure and the Wiki on the network to assure that all information is readily available and recognizable.
  • Maintain all necessary documentation, including Daily Site reports, Work Reports and other documentation as assigned.
  • Work with the R&D team, Electrical Design department, Company Principals and software developers on the enhancement, modification or development of controller boards, hardware and other devices as assigned.
  • Implement and maintain test fixtures for evaluation and troubleshooting of controller boards and other devices as required.
  • Assist as required in the testing and trouble-shooting of all FTSI projects and products.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the VP of Technical Services and the Director of Technical Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a strong understanding of established electrical and electronic principles and safety procedures.
  • Must have experience with board level design, evaluation, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Must have experience with Analog and Digital I/O, high speed serial communication and filtration circuit design.
  • Must have experience with variable speed drives, and closed loop motor controls.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work unsupervised, able to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and technical staff.
  • Experience with Posix based operating systems a plus.
  • Must have experience with AutoCad, and 3D Modeling software.
  • Must have experience with electrical controls design and debugging.
  • Experience with Modbus, Ethercat, K-bus, CAN and Profibus a play.
  • Must have experience with basic computer network equipment and network configuration.
  • Must have experience with electrical safety system design and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to adapt personal work schedule as required to meet project deadlines and assigned duties.
  • Ability to be a creative thinker; willingness to try new approaches to the job.
  • Must be knowledgeable regarding industry standards, codes and regulations, including but not limited to IEC61508, NEC, IEEE and OSHA.
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license and passport to be able to travel as required.
  • Ability to continue education outside of normal office hours towards company product knowledge and use, and industry trends and technology.
