Job Title:  Service Technician

Department:  Technical Services

Reports to:  VP of Technical Services and Service Lead


It is the responsibility of the Service Technician to facilitate the effective repair and efficient use of proprietary FTSI hardware and software.


  • Prepare for the testing, repair, set-up and programming of FTSI equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain written FAT testing documents for each repair.
  • Maintain test fixtures for evaluation and troubleshooting of controller boards as required.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment; update maintenance and inspection records as directed.
  • Maintain a safe working environment at all times by conforming to all established FTSI and OSHA safety policies and procedures and participating in all required safety classes.
  • Ensure maintenance of written procedures for the service, testing, troubleshooting and repair of each type of FTSI component and assembly including guidelines for determining repair efficacy of proprietary and third-party controllers.
  • Prepare for the installation and configuration of Navigator Server and GUI software.
  • Develop and inform technical approaches and designs used for specific FTSI new projects.
  • Assist as project schedules require, in the creation of repair / operation manuals.
  • Assist as project schedules require, in the assembly, termination, troubleshooting and testing of equipment or systems as required.
  • Maintain all database logs and entries for all standard Service procedural needs.
  • Strategize and organize the Service Department’s procedures in support of FTSI clients.
  • Communicate with clients and maintain a positive, open relationship geared towards customer satisfaction and expert problem-solving.
  • Maintain the Automation Engineering directory structure and the Wiki on the network to assure that all information is readily available and recognizable.
  • Availability to respond to client emergency requests for service per FTSI policy.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the VP of Technical Services and / or the Service Lead.

  • Must have an understanding of established electrical and electronic principles and safety procedures.
  • Must have experience with board level design, evaluation, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work unsupervised, able to multi-task and to prioritize work.
  • Ability to adapt personal work schedule as required to meet project deadlines and assigned duties.
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive relationship with other departments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and technical staff.
  • Ability to be a creative thinker; willingness to try new approaches to job.
  • Experience with variable speed drives and closed loop motor control.
  • Background in theatrical or industrial automation or electronic testing and service preferred.
  • Must have a valid U.S driver’s license and passport to be able to travel as required.
  • Ability and willingness to continue education outside of normal office hours towards company product knowledge and use, and industry trends and technology.
